Zack shares his story of living homeless in Cambridge . Having lived in his car for six years, his journey highlights the severe lack of affordable housing in Cambridge. His story is a poignant reminder of the struggles faced by many and the harsh realities of homelessness. Zack’s journey into homelessness began when he gave up his home to care for his father, only to lose him a month later.
Living in a car at 47, He describes the fear and challenges he faces daily. “It’s kind of scary. I’m almost 47 years old. Almost deaf , and I suffer from life-threatening blood infection she contracted from living outside. I have a dog with me now because I don’t hear to let me know if somebody is approaching the car. Because . A major turning point in Zack’s life came when a friend introduced him to I.T.A.C and began to access help with his deafness and homelessness.
He speaks out against the judgment and misconceptions about homelessness. “It’s really not fair. All of us aren’t like that. Some of us work, some of us have jobs, you know, just trying to stay afloat and to save money to get a place.” He emphasises the need for empathy and understanding, urging people to stop and listen to the stories of those experiencing homelessness.
Zack still accesses support from I.T.A.C , speaking to his counsellor each week and visiting the centre regularly to access w support from the project team.
